PCB Terms

Annular ring – a copper ring on a metalized hole on a PCB.

DRC – Design rule check. A procedure to check whether the design contains errors, such as short circuits, too thin traces, or too small holes.
Drilling hit – used to indicate the deviation between the drilling position required in the design and the actual drilling position. Incorrect drilling center caused by blunt drill bit is a common problem in PCB manufacturing.
(Golden) Finger-The exposed metal pad on the edge of the board, generally used to connect two circuit boards. Such as the edge of the expansion module of the computer, the memory stick and the old game card.
Stamp hole – In addition to V-Cut, another alternative design method for sub-boards. Using some continuous holes to form a weak connection point, the board can be easily separated from the imposition. SparkFun’s Protosnap board is a good example.
The stamp hole on the ProtoSnap allows the PCB to be easily bent down.
Pad – A part of the exposed metal on the PCB surface for soldering devices.

Panle Board-a large circuit board composed of many divisible small circuit boards. Automatic circuit board production equipment often has problems when producing small boards. Combining several small boards together can speed up the production speed.

Stencil – a thin metal template (it can also be plastic), which is placed on the PCB during assembly to allow the solder to pass through certain parts.

Pick-and-place-a machine or process that puts components on a circuit board.

Plane-a continuous section of copper on the circuit board. It is generally defined by boundaries, not paths. Also called “copper-clad”
